February Focus--International Engagement
This month's focus highlighted the importance of living, working, and traveling in other countries in order to gain a perspective on the world beyond our borders. These experiences have an impact on our daily lives, the way we interact with others, and the way we view the world. The 2005: The Year of Languages program encourages languages educators to share their own experiences with their students and to invite others to do the same. The national event was held on Monday, March 7, 2005 at the Elliott School for International Affairs at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. A panel discussed their experiences living and working abroad and the impact it had on their personal and professional lives. The panel was be moderated by Joseph A. Esposito, Deputy Under Secretary for International Affairs, U.S. Department of Education, and featured representatives from the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program, the Elliott School of International Affairs, the Fulbright Hays Seminar Abroad Program, Georgetown University Overseas Program, and the Peace Corps were on the panel.
