Post to Year of Languages Bulletin Board Publications > Foreign Language Annals YOL Board Home   Post   Search School District : Virginia Beach City Public Schools Connections for YOL Connections for YOL Foreign language students and teachers at Corporate Landing Middle School in Virginia Beach, VA, have been actively involved in the celebration of the Year of the Languages. In April, Spanish I and II students and their teacher, Ms. Maria Nuzzo, joined Teen Living students to prepare some Hispanic dishes. Ms. Nuzzo led the students in a discussion on the different types of bananas used in the Caribbean cuisine. The students learned about the nutritional value of each type of banana and ways in which they are prepared. The activity culminated with the preparation of tostones (fried green plantains). The students were actively engaged in the preparation and sampling of the food. Teen Living teacher, Ms. Janet Pugh assisted with the set up of the food lab and coordination of the activity.
