Post to Year of Languages Bulletin Board 2005: The Year of Languages > Welcome to the Year of Languages Website! > Supporting the Effort > Find out how you can support the Year of Languages > Participant Kit > Participant Kit PDF files for Download YOL Board Home   Post   Search School District : Vernon Public Schools Taste of Languages 2005 Over 300 community members gathered at the Vernon Center Middle School to learn one of 13 less commonly taught languages, such as Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Luganda, Urdu, Arabic, ASL, Polish, Portuguese, Thamizh, Ukrainian, Mongolian, and Yiddish. At the end of the 45 minute lesson, all gathered in the auditorium to hear a proclamation from the Deputy Mayor, declaring 2005 and 2006 as years of languages in Vernon. Participants also enjoyed multicultural entertainment such as Italian opera, Irish step dancing, martial arts, Ukrainian dancing and songs in Yiddish. The event concluded with ethnic snacks in the cafeteria.
