YOL Board Home   Post   Search School District : Virginia Beach Public School System Making connectionswith Legal Academy In support of the Year of Language’s February focus “International Engagement”, the Legal Studies Academy at First Colonial High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, participated on the Model UN team. The Legal Studies Academy has worked along side of the school’s foreign languages department. Our students get to showcase how their legal and foreign language skills work together. Just as in the actual United Nations, current world problems are debated in committee until resolutions are created and passed by delegates from member countries. Students have had the opportunity to work with their peers from countries all over the world. First Colonial student delegates have won numerous awards including best delegation and best delegate. Their foreign language backgrounds have made these representatives more sensitive to cultural diversity and thereby improved their outlook as delegates to the Model UN.
